The West should intensify sanctions against Iran, according to

French President Emmanuel Macron, and target government

figures who take part in the brutal suppression of Iranian

 protestors calling for equal rights for women.

Since late September, Iranian women and some men have been protesting the

government's stringent censorship of their everyday lives in response to the

murder of Mahsa Amini, 22, who was detained for allegedly breaking the Islamic

Republic's strict dress code and later died as a result.
